Preparing Our Children for the Future
At St Gregory’s Catholic Academy, we are committed to ensuring that every child is not only successful in their learning today, but also well prepared for their future. We believe it is important that pupils understand how the subjects they study in school connect to the wider world, including the many different careers they may choose to pursue.
From an early age, children begin to form ideas about what they might like to do in the future. Without meaningful opportunities to explore different pathways, these ideas can become limited by what they see in their environment, in the media, or through stereotypes. By carefully linking learning in subject areas to real-life careers, we help our pupils to broaden their horizons, raise their aspirations, and believe in what they can achieve. To support this, we use a rich variety of resources including visitors to school, school trips, BBC Bitesize Careers videos and MyPath features such as ‘Job of the Week’, ‘Why Bother?’ and ‘Job Summary’.
Through our curriculum:
We ensure learning is purposeful and relevant, helping pupils to understand how the knowledge and skills they develop can be applied in real-life situations.
We support pupils to become aspirational and confident individuals, who recognise that a wide range of opportunities are open to them.
We actively challenge stereotypes and promote equality, ensuring that every child, regardless of background, feels empowered to succeed.
We help pupils develop important life skills such as teamwork, respect, resilience, responsibility, self-belief, and communication, preparing them for the next stage of education and beyond.
By making these connections explicit, pupils are more engaged in their learning and understand why their education matters.
