Our Reception after‑school art club at St Gregory’s Catholic Academy in Stockton has been bursting with colour, culture and creativity! The children have been on an exciting artistic journey, exploring Australian and African art — and their enthusiasm has shone through in every brushstroke.

From vibrant patterns inspired by Aboriginal designs to bold, expressive African masks, our youngest pupils have truly embraced the opportunity to learn through art. Their incredible pictures and handcrafted masks show just how imaginative and talented they are. We couldn’t be more proud!

But these sessions have been about so much more than making beautiful artwork. Art plays a powerful role in helping children express themselves, build confidence and discover their unique creative voice. At St Gregory’s, we believe that giving young children the chance to explore different artistic styles allows them to develop independence, curiosity and a love for trying new things.

By learning about art from other cultures, the children also gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. It opens their eyes to diversity, traditions and stories from across the globe — all in a way that feels fun, engaging and accessible.

Incorporating art into the school day, especially for younger children, is a wonderful way to spark joy, encourage hands‑on learning and nurture a lifelong love of creativity. And judging by the masterpieces produced in our art club, our Reception pupils are already well on their way!

Well done to all our little artists — your creativity is truly inspiring!
