Curriculum Intent

At St. Gregory’s, our PE curriculum aims to develop happy, confident and enthusiastic learners who enjoy taking part in physical activity and strive to achieve their personal best. We believe PE is central to pupils’ physical health, emotional wellbeing and social development. Through PE, children learn to challenge themselves, support others, work as part of a team and cope with both success and failure.

Our curriculum ensures pupils:

  • Enjoy and participate in a wide range of sports and physical activities.
  • Develop the fundamental movement skills needed for lifelong physical activity.
  • Build resilience, confidence and character.
  • Show fairness, respect and good sportsmanship.
  • Understand the importance of fitness and wellbeing.
  • Learn to swim at least 25 metres and understand how to stay safe in water.

Our approach reflects the Trust virtues of resilience, confidence, respect, responsibility and compassion, helping pupils to develop not only physically, but also socially and emotionally.
